Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in almost all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an amazing range of wagering options and because you have many individuals battling for the high hand, and many battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
